Lunch
I had leftovers today. Yesterday was so inordinately hot, I couldn't bear the thought of actually *cooking* something for dinner. A big salad with cheese cubes and hard cooked eggs, along with good peasant bread was our meal. There was just enough left over today to fix a couple salad plates for Matt and I...with the addition of cooked beets, sour cream dressing with fresh dill and onion, and a newly procured loaf of deli rye bread.
Seems that my eastern european rootstock is sprouting recently, with my renewed interest in things from Poland...food, customs, language (never learned it, but my pronunciation is pretty good and there's still time!). Maybe it's because of my dad's passing and renewed family connections. Maybe it's my age, my transition, and my need to feel all the connections I can...to my past and to the earth. In any case, I've cracked open the books and found some very cool online resources to peruse.
I spent about an hour in the garden this morning (speaking of connection to the earth). Weeded the last patch that needed it out back (giving room to some flowers and herbs that were getting choked), reseeded a few veggies that sprouted thinly, and picked some flowers. How I love the garden!! It's so alive and makes me feel that way too.
