...and I'm so totally avoiding my process today. I picked up my glass yesterday, for the cyanotypes I made when we returned from the trip. So far, I've only gotten two taped together (i.e...cyanotype print gets sandwiched between two pieces of 6 inch square glass, metal tape around that, and then later solder)...and it's trickier than I remembered at first (yes, it all came back). But they'll look good. I really love the sensation of glass in my hands with the image in between too...it makes it feel like a treasured memory...or something...
Back to the trip...well, looking at my film scans brings it back. It's only been two weeks, but feels both longer and shorter ago than that. Although we had rain about 50% of the time, that turned out to be a good thing. Could've easily been hot and muggy, which would have made walking around unbearable (and we did a LOT of walking). The best thing about it, though, was the family time together. It's not that common for us all to be in each others' presence anymore, at least not for any extended period of time...everyone is so busy. It really was a pleasure.
So, it's back to work...even though the work feels less than settled at the moment. And in that vein, I'm consdiring attending a lecture on Thursday by Hugh Shurley ...I find his work quite impressive. There is supposed to be time afterward to talk with him and show him work that anyone wants to bring. I'm honestly a bit intimidated at the prospect of such, but maybe it would be good for me. I read this on the venue's website as well: "Mr. Shurley is a self-taught photographer who has worked as an art director, teacher, and professional visual artist. His life has revolved around images, and he believes in being absolutely true to yourself in your art - that you should never apologize for your creations, nor should you be fearful of making mistakes, since some of your best work will come out of trial and error. Mr. Shurley will be speaking on this philosophy, and sharing some examples of his work." I thought that was pretty cool.
