A brief respite from winter, today. The temperature got close to 70F and similar is in store for tomorrow. Rain is also on the way (the ground is quite muddy and saturated right now after the snow melted, but the river is still on the low side). It was interesting to see just how much ice is still around...which is an indication of how thick the water had frozen.
After the weekend, things will return to seasonal...there's another arctic blast predicted and some rumblings about the possibility of flurries next Wednesday. Momentary spring-like bursts in the midst of winter...it's not that strange. It's almost like nature is saying, "here, look, don't lose faith, the warmth will return, just not quite yet!"
The windows are cracked open to let in fresh air, the wood stove remains unlit and for the first time in a while the furnace isn't kicking on during the day. Strangely, the house has a thermal mass such that it's cooler inside than out!
I don't usually like weirdly warm weather in winter. But we're far enough out that the novelty is welcome. And it was nice to walk without a jacket and hat on today!
