great grandmother

I didn't know her. Honestly, I don't know the Polish term for great grandmother (grandmother is "babcia"). She was from a town that is now in the Ukraine. A grandmother of hers a few more generations back came from the Ashkenazi community (according to my DNA). At what point and why did this ancient grandma leave the Jewish community? It's interesting to think of what distills in each generation, from the previous generations. What makes me...me?
