It was a little foggy first thing in the morning. Over an inch of rain fell yesterday, so everything was saturated. After the fog burned off, it remained slightly hazy, but the sun was definitely out. The doors and windows are still open late this afternoon, as I enjoy the balmy spring air.
While I had intended to work on a specific task this afternoon (in the garden, of course), I ended up on the rampage after fishwort. I don't know if this is something someone planted in the past, or it just migrated from somewhere else, but it's really, really annoying. Last year I sort of ignored it, this year I can't. I suspect I'll never completely eradicate it, but at least minor control will help. The good news, though, is that where ever I was digging it out, even though the soil was still mucky and compacted, there were loads of earthworms!!
Lastly, the batch of hot cross buns I made yesterday turned out well. Tea with one of these was perfect to eat in the warm spring sunshine. I remember my mom used to get the store bought hot cross buns when I was a kid. They were from some large corporate bakery like Van de Kamp's (was that only a west coast thing?). I loved them...except for the citron peel. I mean, sure, I still gobbled it up but the pieces of citron were a bit jarring for my childhood palate. In the batch that I made yesterday I used raisins and my home candied orange peel. It definitely satisfied my craving (and considering there's a half dozen in the freezer, my craving will be satisfied well after the Easter season).
