As I walked Avery today, I thought about what I wanted for lunch. I don't usually have eggs for breakfast, but lunch or dinner, yes. There were greens to be thinned from the garden, and some radishes to pick, as well as herbs. So, I made greens cooked in a little olive oil with garlic and a squeeze of lemon juice, scrambled eggs with chives and dill, and a side of fresh radishes with a sprinkling of salt. It was...perfect.
I wandered around out front with my DSLR. Every day there's something new. The rains yesterday were good and soaking. It's cold today...and will be so tonight. But then, a return to spring weather (well, this is spring weather I suppose).

It's cold too...may top out in the upper 40s. Compared to last week, quite the change. We need the rain, though. The only hiccup may be a freeze Tuesday into Wednesday, in which case I'll be covering up plants. I keep thinking temperatures in the 30s are gone because of how warm it has become at times. But nope...that's not what spring does!

Holy Saturday to be exact. This used to mean something, or at least have an impact on my life. But I don't really celebrate Easter any more. Over the past several years I have occasionally made some special food that is culturally significant, to note the occasion. This year, however, I just wasn't feeling it.
I could feel a heaviness this morning...a heaviness in my heart. I felt like crying, so I did, not trying very hard to attach the emotion to anything. Sometimes a good cry is just needed. Upon reflection, despite my not celebrating Easter, I did realized that there are still warm memories that are associated. I understood that my crying was because of a certain kind of mourning. The past activities and significance of family get togethers that aren't part of my life right now are missed. I thought that was okay. It was okay to feel how I felt, and it was okay to move on from it...which is something I'm better and better able to do.
Avery and I had a walk, I puttered in the garden and took pictures, I visited with a neighbor and will be going to a different neighbor for dinner tonight. The sun is shining and warm, flowers are blooming and plants are growing. Oh, and it's full moon!! Not a bad Saturday.
I didn't make a blog post yesterday. I think it was the first time this year. I purposefully haven't been numbering the posts because I didn't want to get obsessive about posting every day. It's better for it to be goal or an intention, rather than become some kind of obligation. That being said, I did take a couple Instax photos.
Since the beginning of the pandemic (or maybe six months in), a couple Fridays a month, a group of us friends get together on Zoom to discuss a chosen book we've read. In the past there may have been as many as eight of us, but typically it has become a core group of four...and I think we're all okay with this. Sometimes we just visit, sometimes we'll discuss our reading and then visit. It's always fun, supportive and nurturing. And I'm so grateful for it.
It was the perfect morning to mow the front lawns (I won't say grass, because there's a variety of vegetation growing out there, but very little true grass...hey, it's green!). I planted a few more seedlings as well. The weather was forecast to possibly be stormy, so I'll keep an eye on things to see if hail protection will be needed. This should be the last above normal warm day for a week. It's been a good stretch. I have no complaints.
Spring has definitely sprung as evidenced by the coating of pollen that seems to grace everything. The doors and windows to the house are open wide, so it's even inside! Fortunately, I'm not bothered too much by it. A good vacuuming will be in order very soon.
I spent some time planting seedlings in the garden this afternoon. Sunflowers, cosmos and basil seedlings to be precise. I also uncovered the warm season plants that are in the beds. Given a drop in temperatures next week, I may need to protect them again but it was time they were exposed to the fresh air.
It was eight years ago today that I came into this house. I left a few pieces of myself adornment wise, before I was to fly back to California to finish my packing. Eight years...that's almost ten...and that seems like a long time. It's weird how life is.
Actually, no, watching Colbert clips on youtube isn't a new experience. But resting after a basal cell carcinoma excision is! First time for me. I was a bit nervous but all went well.
I'm learning as I get older, there are many ways to live a healthy life. At the same time, stuff happens. I actually weathered this pretty well, compared to other, new health care experiences. I'm pretty proud of myself (if you knew me and my issues well, you would be too!).
So, the after care instructions say to not do anything too strenuous. I came home, had a bite to eat, took Avery for a walk, then proceeded to prep lamb shanks to braise in the oven. I rarely cook meat, but I'm trying to pay attention to my intuition regarding what my body needs. Hopefully I'll have a good dinner without a lot of effort in a couple hours.
It's very warm today...spring is here. Rain in the forecast in the next few days, which will be appreciated.
I'm never at a loss for good books to read.
