I'm ready for fall. The humidity dropped, but it remains toasty outside. Still, a cool-ish morning was lovely and allowed for a somewhat comfortable time working on the front yard. The lawn had grown, so I mowed, and weeded, and removed a bit of dying stuff. Oh, I even cleaned off the pine needles from the gravel driveway (yes, there will be more).
The garden is a bit tired now. There are still plenty of flowers to feed the butterflies, though, which is lovely. I need to start pulling more old plants out and think about what to grow this fall...of which an attempt will be made. Buckwheat will be a little cover crop in the majority of the beds, I think...to let grow and turn under. All the beds need to be topped off with compost at some point. Laying in bed last night my mind engaged, thinking of all the tasks I want to do in the garden. Sadly, that resulted in insomnia...but there are worse things for the mind to engage with.
I do love fall. It's such a cozy time...maybe a bit melancholic, but that's okay. Skelely will be going on the front porch soon and I'm on the hunt for a witch weather vane (which will probably stay up all year!). At the grocery store yesterday I wondered if I'd see any pumpkins...alas, no. And pumpkin ale, that's on my to get list as well. The sun is shifting so I'm not sure how many more cyanotypes I'll be making...I do want to do more experimentation before the season ends. If I had a UV box, it wouldn't matter. Using the sun is pretty special, however.
And that sums of the first day of meteorological fall.
