new cyanotype fabric project

I'm making a hanging for the garden, using Slavic symbols for the designs.  The design with the diamond pattern in squares represents Mokosh.  The six petaled rosette (which I'll orient correctly when I finish the piece) is a symbol of protection.  I'll be stringing them on the inside of the muscadine vine wreaths which I made with the pruning done recently.  The intention is to hang them one from the other vertically and then from the large limb on the red oak out front.  I have no idea how long they'll last in weather, but like prayer flags I see them as something that will disintegrate back into the earth over time.

Cody's is no longer on 4th Street

I pulled out this book of poetry by Diane diPrima last night.  I wanted something by my bed to read before I went to sleep, but not something that would pull me in and keep me up late.  It's been a while since I've read this (although I did reread her memoir a few years ago).  There was a sales receipt in the book.  It's from Cody's on 4th Street in Berkeley.  The date is March 2, 2005.  Almost 19 years ago.  My, how things have changed since then.

Welcome to February.  Goodness that first month of the year went by fast.  Today is mild and sunny.  It was very good weather for spreading wood chips.  I ended up working more than I told myself I should.  But, I think I'll be okay.  It feels good to have gotten that project started.
