We're here, once again.  Seems to arrive more quickly all the time!

Home sweet home

I've been making these self portraits on Fridays.  But...I wasn't home on Friday and I didn't take my Lomo instant camera with me.  So...the soonest I could make this was Sunday.  And I was feeling too lazy (after getting home at about 2:30 am that morning) to go to the set up I've been using.  So...yeah.

It's always a little poignant for me to leave family again, after being in California.  But equally, I really look forward to be back home.  This time of year, especially, I want to prepare my thoughts and heart for the new year.  Despite how bleak the world can feel, I still maintain an optimism about all the things I want to do in the coming 2025.

Wishing you all a lovely holiday week! I’m out of town, and with family for the holiday (for the first time since before the pandemic). We’ve been with each other at times, but not for the holiday so this is special and I’m grateful.

I only have film cameras with me so more interesting (imo) images won’t be happening until after I’m back home. In the meantime here are some photos from my phone of the adventure so far…

winter (almost) afternoon

The temperatures keep going up and down and up and down.  It's been years since we had a winter with a cold spell that lasted more than a few days.  I know there are people who prefer it this way...that the warmer temps appeal to them.  But I just want to have a couple weeks of very cold temperatures, with maybe a little bit of snow.  That's my Christmas wish.  Not for Christmas mind you, but some time this winter.  My body feels like it wants to hibernate and I want the weather to say it's ok (aka, "it's snowing so I'm not doing anything today").

...I don't have anything interesting to share.  Here are a few digitals from Agecroft Hall a week or so ago. 

Honestly, I've been in "get ready for travel" mode.  And maybe even more so "get ready for Christmas travel" mode which tends to be more complex.

Anyway, I may be sparse here until after the holiday.  I'll be mulling over my new year's intentions during this time as well.  More art, more garden, more movement...to name a few.  Maybe a Patreon launched...maybe 'zines in the works.  Many things to consider.

It's been a year, hasn't it?  Oof.  Lots going on in the personal realm as well as the public/political.  

Whoever is reading this, I wish you all the best holiday season.  Don't forget to rest (which is what we mammals should be doing during the dark days).

it has been a week

It hasn't been a bad week, just busy for this old body and nervous system. Lots of people (for me).  And lots of pivoting.

But I finished another pajak of which I'm pleased.  This one is Christmas holiday themed (mainly via colors).  I was going to make a more elaborate design, but partway through I realized I didn't have the correct size hoop.  So, I went back to the first simple pattern with some changes.

We've only got a few weeks left of 2024.  It has been a year.

I gave a ride to friends to catch an early morning train.  It was still dark when I got home, plus it was cold.  After a few warm days, the temps have taken another dive...and I'm not mad about it.  The quiet of this time of day is a pleasure, especially with a fire in the wood stove and a mug of tea.  It's a good time for writing as well.  So I sat with my feet tucked under me and did my morning practice.  A nap some time later might be in order.
